About the Chair

A partnership teaching and research Chair at the crossroads of architecture, engineering and digital technology.
An accredited Chair

A partnership Chair accredited by the French Ministry of Culture

The Architecture & Intelligences Research Chair is a partnership teaching and research Chair accredited by the French Ministry of Culture. It explores how architectural practice is being transformed by artificial intelligence, spatial data and the environmental transition, bringing together teaching, applied research and technological innovation. Its expertise covers four research areas:

  • Artificial Intelligence for Architecture
  • Augmented Architectural Design
  • Our Relationship with Resources and Ecosystems
  • Augmenting Reality
Origins & objectives

From research seminar to Research Chair

Since 2018, the scientific project of the Architecture & Intelligences Research Chair has built on the research seminar "Architecture Intelligence – Research on the impact of cognitive sciences on architectural design". This research has shown that architects and designers must play an active role in this process in order to define appropriate forms of collaboration between humans and intelligent systems, with the aim of improving our built environment. The Chair's objective is to establish concrete research partnerships with companies in construction, building products and built-heritage management, in order to develop with them solutions that improve the act of building and its environmental impact.

The Chair also aims to reflect on the transformation of teaching in architecture, engineering and digital professions. This research seeks to anticipate the profound transformation of these professions, driven in particular by the automation of analysis and design-support processes. By freeing architects and engineers from repetitive tasks, we believe these technologies open up new avenues for innovation and design. The Chair develops proposals for new forms of training and learning, with particular attention to digital design, the major improvement of collaborative practices brought about by BIM (augmented BIM), and the development of protocols for analysing and designing building data.
